Born into a middle-class farming family in Ooramana, Adv. Abin Varkey Kodiyattu's public life began through student politics. He entered the political arena through KSU, and his time as School Leader at St. Peter's School, Kolenchery marked his first step into leadership. From there, youth politics, organisational work, protest movements, and legal practice came together to shape his political identity.

Abin Varkey Kodiyattu is also recognised as one of the visible protest faces of the Congress movement in Kerala. During the Secretariat march demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, he was seriously injured in police action, and the image of him bleeding from the head became widely discussed in Kerala's political space.
His public life has included repeated participation in protest movements, multiple jail experiences, and numerous cases registered over the last decade in connection with political activism.
